A recent Grist article explores how Ann Arbor, Michigan, is working to launch its own Sustainable Energy Utility (SEU). The story points to the DC Sustainable Energy Utility (DCSEU) as a proven model for expanding energy efficiency services and access to clean energy at a community level. As more cities search for practical paths to meet their climate goals in the face of rising energy affordability concerns, the SEU model is gaining attention as a way for local governments to manage emissions and energy use without overhauling existing energy systems. 

That balance is key, according to Ben Burdick, Managing Director of the DCSEU. “The conversation that we’re hearing is around how do you continue to talk about climate with affordability,” he says. “Programs like the DCSEU are going to continue to be the way that we double down.” Sustainable Energy Utilities are one proven solution to bring together climate action with real cost savings for communities.
