With increased energy efficiency and zero tailpipe emissions, electric school buses (ESBs) are reducing health risks to students and providing cost savings for urban and rural school districts across Maine. The state has made notable progress in adopting ESBs, with 82 ESBs committed to 29 school districts, adding to New England’s total of roughly 950 ESBs committed.

VEIC developed a case study on electric school bus safety for The Nature Conservancy of Maine. This case study draws on numerous national, trusted resources to address common questions about ESB safety, including vehicle design, safety performance compared to conventional gasoline and diesel vehicles, and relevant regulations.

This case study can serve as a resource for a variety of audiences and stakeholders, including school districts planning for ESBs and representatives deciding on public policy.
