Vermont and DC recognized as national energy efficiency leaders in ACEEE’s new scorecard rankings
Efficiency Vermont and the DC Sustainable Energy Utility help their communities earn top ranks in ACEEE 2025 State Energy Efficiency Scorecard
The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) ranked Vermont and the District of Columbia as top tier states in its 2025 State Energy Efficiency Scorecard. Vermont earned the number four spot, marking the 14th time the state has ranked in the top five since the scorecard began in 2006. Washington, D.C., achieved a total score of 66.5, placing the District in the highest point range and ranking it 12th in the country.
VEIC is thrilled to celebrate the pivotal roles Efficiency Vermont and the DC Sustainability Energy Utility (DCSEU) have played in advancing energy efficiency in their communities. These rankings are a testament to each program’s success and dedication to making energy efficiency and electrification more accessible to residents and businesses.
Sagarika Subramanian, a Program Design Manager at VEIC who helped author the report in a previous role with ACEEE, shared that the consistent leadership displayed by the Vermont and DC programs played a big role in her decision to join VEIC.
“I was drawn to VEIC for its strong reputation in implementing and administering innovative and impactful energy efficiency and decarbonization programs. After researching and writing about state-level policies and programs at ACEEE, it has been incredibly rewarding to observe and contribute to program design efforts at VEIC,” said Subramanian.
