VEIC Announces Hire of New Chief Operating Officer

VEIC, the decarbonization nonprofit on a mission to generate the energy solutions the world needs, has bolstered its leadership and capabilities by welcoming Dr. Louis Hutchinson III as the organization’s first Chief Operating Officer.

Hutchinson brings to VEIC a wealth of experience from a variety of Fortune 500 companies and an executive background in energy, including roles as Chief Revenue Officer at WGL (the parent company of Washington Gas) and Sr. V.P. of Public Sector and Energy Efficiency Sales at Constellation Energy. Under his watch he successfully moved WGL’s portfolio toward a focus on renewable energy projects. While there, he was responsible for the design and implementation of a major transformation, including re-branding of the 170-year-old corporation.

Throughout his career, his talents have been recognized by business and industry. He was named 2018 Chief Marketing Officer of the Year by the Washington Business Journal; Savoy Magazine’s Top 100 Most Influential Blacks in Corporate America in 2014, 2016, and 2018; and Black Enterprise Magazine’s 300 Most Powerful Blacks in the Fortune 500 in 2018.

He will work under VEIC CEO Rebecca Foster and will maintain a presence in both the DCSEU (District of Columbia s Sustainable Energy Utility) office in Washington D.C. and VEIC’s corporate headquarters in Winooski, Vermont.

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Hutchinson join us at VEIC.” says CEO Rebecca Foster. “As VEIC expands its work on equitable decarbonization nationally, Dr. Hutchison is the perfect person to help us scale up our impacts during this exciting time in the clean energy industry.”

Dr. Hutchinson says he’s ready to get started lending his talents to VEIC. “I am excited and look forward to strengthening VEIC’s proven track record as a national leader in clean energy expansion.”

As the COO, Dr. Hutchinson will work closely with the leaders of VEIC’s largest programs, including Efficiency Vermont, the DC Sustainable Utility, Efficiency Smart, and its national consulting and engineering practice. His focus will be on ensuring the organization delivers strong programmatic results in the communities where it operates, advancing the organization’s mission to generate the energy solutions the world needs.
