Firms Combine Expertise in Supply Channel Relationships, Utility Program Design and Implementation

Energy Solutions and Vermont Energy Investment Corporation (VEIC) today announced a strategic alliance to advance best practices in upstream and midstream energy efficiency program design and implementation. This alliance strengthens each firm’s ability to advance these programs anywhere in North America and covers the full range of building end-use technologies. Together, the combined upstream and midstream team has served market actors and utility clients since 1998 and has active programs in 19 states.

Energy efficiency program administrators are increasingly turning to upstream and midstream programs to accelerate the adoption of efficient technologies and significantly increase savings. When done properly, strategic engagement of the supply channel—manufacturers, manufacturer representatives, distributors, and contractors—can increase program participation by orders of magnitude, transform the products that are stocked and sold, and provide new and improved strategies for enhanced utility customer engagement.

To ensure success, upstream and midstream approaches require different implementation strategies, resources, and relationships than downstream programs, as well as a nuanced understanding of how market actors work together to transact business in each technology supply chain.
