VEIC WELCOMES JIM MERRIAM AS DIRECTOR OF EFFICIENCY VERMONT
May 11, 2010: Scott Johnstone, Executive Director of Vermont Energy Investment Corporation (VEIC) announced today that Jim Merriam will become Director of Efficiency Vermont beginning June 1, 2010. VEIC is a nonprofit energy services organization, best known for operating Efficiency Vermont, Vermont's nationally acclaimed statewide energy efficiency utility.
“Jim is going to be a great addition to the leadership team at VEIC”, said Scott Johnstone. “He brings extensive experience working with results-driven, entrepreneurial organizations that are focused on clean energy. His talents in developing strategic direction, fostering innovation, building effective partnerships, and delivering measurable results will raise the bar for our stewardship of the Efficiency Vermont contract, which is already a national leader in energy efficiency services.”
Jim comes to VEIC from groSolar, where he has been the Chief Operating Office since 2007. Prior to that, he was Vice President of Operations at Northern Power Systems for 15 years. Jim is also on the Board of Directors of Renewable Energy Vermont as well as a member of numerous environmental organizations Jim received a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Vermont and a Masters degree in Engineering Management from Drexel University.

As Director of Efficiency Vermont, Jim will be responsible for executive management, leadership, and oversight of Efficiency Vermont service delivery, strategic planning, marketing, policy, regulatory, and public affairs activities. He will have primary responsibility for ensuring that Efficiency Vermont energy savings goals and objectives on behalf of Vermont 's ratepayers are met.
Jim joins a senior management team at VEIC that includes Executive Director Scott Johnstone; co-founder and Policy Director Blair Hamilton; and co-founder Beth Sachs, among others.
Efficiency Vermont was created in 1999 by the Vermont Legislature and the Vermont Public Service Board to help all Vermonters reduce energy costs, strengthen the economy and protect Vermont 's environment. In 2009, Efficiency Vermont helped Vermont homes and businesses make investments in energy-efficiency that will provide $112 million in economic value over their lifetime.
VEIC provides energy planning, design, implementation and evaluation services to clients throughout North America and beyond. Its mission is “to reduce the costs – both monetary and environmental – of energy use“, and VEIC has adopted very ambitious goals to reduce climate change emissions through its work on advanced efficiency and renewable energy projects worldwide. Under a performance-based contract to the Vermont Public Service Board, VEIC provides the services of “Efficiency Vermont ” to Vermonters. VEIC operates out of offices in Burlington, Massachusetts and New Jersey.
