Currently, renewables represent relatively modest shares of total primary energy use, and many renewable energy industries and markets are still in the early stages of development. The transition toward renewable energy will continue to be driven by a strong combination of economic, geologic, security and environmental factors.
VEIC's Role
VEIC provides technical analysis, advocacy, and program design and delivery support to promote on-site customer scale renewable energy systems and larger grid-scale applications. We have provided these services on behalf of consumer advocates, environmental groups, government agencies, utilities and other program administrators in a variety of situations. Typically, our renewable energy work includes a combination of the following:
- Detailed characterization of the costs and performance of renewable energy technologies,
- Assessment of the technical, economic and achievable potential for renewable energy technologies and programs,
- Development of program theories detailing anticipated impacts by market actor and time period that can guide program development and evaluation,
- Development of program implementation plans including detailed administrative rules and procedures,
- Identification of market barriers and program strategies to reduce or overcome these barriers,
- Development and implementation of marketing and consumer education plans for renewable energy technologies, including telephone support lines and web content,
- Determination of proper incentive levels and strategies for renewable energy buy-down programs,
- Technical training and assistance for program implementation contractors or administrative staff,
- Outreach to industry partners and other critical stakeholders,
- Develop and implement program reporting and evaluation plans, and
- Advocacy and negotiations for increased policy and funding support for renewable energy.
